About Furry Friends Haven Located among the red rock hills of Southern Utah, Furry Friends Haven turned from dream to reality in the summer of 2000. Although I had been rescuing and caring for homeless cats and dogs for over thirty years, retirement gave me the opportunity to fulfill a life-long goal: establishing a non-profit, no-kill animal sanctuary/hospice catering to special needs cats and dogs. Furry Friends Haven currently houses its maximum capacity of 35 lifetime residents who, due to age, infirmity, illness, or personality, are considered .unadoptable.. From time to time, Furry Friends Haven also rescues, fosters, and adopts out. Many friends from my Houston corporate life are amazed at what they consider to be my .sacrifice.. When I awaken in the morning and look at all these sweet, though sometimes exasperating, furry faces, I can.t imagine ever going back to the corporate world. Working with these wonderful animals is my greatest joy. To keep FFH running since my retirement portfolio rapidly dwindled due to the stock market downturn, I began selling books, CDs, and videos on Amazon. I.ve also begun listing items for sale on E-bay. Still, with food, litter, medicines, cleaning supplies, vet bills, and other operational expenses approaching $2500 each month, sustaining Furry Friends Haven is a challenge. In 2002 I incorporated Furry Friends Haven and we became a 501C3 non-profit organization (tax ID #04-3655835).
